The value of magnetic resonance arthrography of the temporomandibular joint in imaging disc adhesions and perforations

This study attempted to validate MR arthrography (MRAr) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in detecting the position, integrity and relations of the articular disc and retrodiscal tissue. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is a common disorder affecting more than 5% of the general population.1 Many patients show only mild signs and symptoms and only a fraction of the above percentage come to the physician’s attention. A variety of causative and exacerbating factors are involved and interact in the pathogenesis and clinical course of TMD.
